The singer was born Kelly Nonhlanhla Khumalo on 1 November 1984. Her mother is Ntombi Khumalo. However, she has no idea who her father is, as her mother has refused to reveal that. This has been a source of conflict between them.
Her foray into music began in 2003 during a gospel star search. Her performance during the search snapped the attention of Sarah and Bonsai Shongwe of Bonsai Entertainment.
After that, she performed before a crowd of 30,000 (during a Kaizer Chiefs match). After that, her professional career began.

During an alleged robbery on 26 October 2014 in Kelly Khumalo’s house in Vosloorus, Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead.
