Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi: The vocal advocate has criticized Health CS Mutahi Kagwe’s strategy in combating the Coronavirus outbreak in Kenya
City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has this afternoon dismissively mocked Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe over his daily Coronavirus press briefings where he updates the nation on the government’s progress in fighting the pandemic.
The Senior Counsel through his official Twitter account noted that Kenya has conducted a significantly lower amount of tests than required in order to accurately establish just how bad the situation is.
Adding that making daily announcements of the number of new people testing positive for the Wuhan flu is “nonsense upon stilts”.

A majority of Kenyans in the comments section seemed to agree with the advocate famed for his high influence within the Kenyan corridors of justice, further echoing his remarks that more tests need to be conducted before a clearer picture of the status can be painted.
Exactly my thoughts. I here people saying that CS Mutahi Kagwe is overworking yet we have tested less than 15,000 samples so far. That alone is an indication that the government is not doing enough. We don’t have the true picture of the extent of Covid-19 spread in Kenya yet.

During Sunday’s briefing read on behalf of Mutahi by Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi, the government looked to rule out any possibility of mass testing. Instead, the Health ministry outlined its testing prioritisation strategy.
Dr Mwangangi listed people who will be tested first as healthcare workers in isolation centres and in hospitals generally, people in places that have reported many cases, such as the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and the locations that those workers went to, and areas in Nairobi County — which account for more than 80 per cent of the cases.
Kenya’s case tally as of April 20 hit 281 with the addition of 11 new cases Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe confirmed in the daily briefing for COVID-19.

Seven of the new cases are from Mombasa County with the remaining from Nairobi county. He also disclosed that 455 people had been quarantined for defying curfew directives.
Kenya has East and Horn of Africa’s third highest tally as of today only behind runaway leaders Djibouti and Mauritius with 846 and 328 cases respectively.
