Apple Music is definitely keeping its focus more on African music, as it recently launched the “African Month” campaign.
The African Month is a long month celebration which will be focused majorly on African artists, their music and the biggest songs on the continent. The campaign will be featuring 15 exclusive playlist by Africa’s biggest artists like Angélique Kidjo,Davido,Sauti Sol, Jimmy Dludlu and others.
Apple Music platform recently revealed that it would be making major expansion into 52 new countries around the world, with 25 of those countries being African.
Angélique Kidjo in talking about the campaign, had this to say;
[Africa’s] music ranges from Uum Kulthum of Egypt down to Miriam Makebaof South Africa, with many distinct styles and subcultures in-between. This playlist is not an exhaustive snapshot of all of the important artists and genres, but is more like a journey through my musical life with the songs that inspired me and the many friendships I’ve found with my fellow African musicians
David also had this to say about the campaign;
Yes, the world is currently in an odd place but I am staying positive and hoping for the best.
The platform is going deep on all things African as it recently launched it “Stream Local initiative” as part of its effort to support artists in South Africa during the Coronavirus pandemic.
The playlist included Mzansi Hits, Mzansi House, Amapiano Lifestyle, Afrikaanse Treffers among others.
